    New build started

    i7 2600k ordered
    320 120gb SSD ordered

Looking for an Asus mobo, and thinking about going with the 6970

Open to suggestions for g-card and mobo. Cant decide if I want to reuse psu, case, ram, etc.

    Re: New build started

There are some rebates on some GTX 570s that are a pretty sweet deal right now.

    Newegg.com - GTX 570

The 6970 is a great card. Here is a comparison from Tom's Hardware (the 6970 is on the left, the GTX 570 on the right):

Charts, benchmarks 2011 Gaming Graphics Charts, Mafia 2 - Enthusiast[4829]=on&prod[4834]=on

The 6970 might have a small performance nudge, probably due to the 2GB frame buffer. The GTX 570 is still a great card and seems to do better with tessellation and DX11 settings.

I will post some other suggestions later... gotta get some sleep now though.

Hi. Go with the latest intel Z68 chipset. "ASUS P8Z68-V PRO" $210 Newegg.com - ASUS P8Z68-V PRO LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard (only "USE" two out of the four memory slots/2x4gb = 8gb. 4gb ram is not enough,i have many games that use way over 4gb total ram usage. screenshots can be provided on requests).

    Best deal/G.skill 2x4gb at a massive 2133mhz for $99 Newegg.com - G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000) Desktop Memory Model F3-17000CL11D-8GBXL

    (Windows 7 64 bit required).

Go with the AMD 6970 over the nvidia 570 (due to the 6970 having 2gb memory/anti aliasing,AF,resolution etc, etc).

What brands & models are the case, ram & PSU that you already have ?

Antec 300 illusion case $70 Newegg.com - Antec Three Hundred Illusion Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case (need to purchase a 120mm fan for side panel exhaust).

    Corsair TX750 V2 750W PSU $110 Newegg.com - CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 750W ATX12V v2.31/ EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC High Performance Power Supply

Just did my build with the Antec 300 Illusion case. Loved it. Its not flamboyant and screaming like some of the other cases. Fans it comes with are great. My only gripe... I guess its a little small. But its big enough for crossfire/SLI so its not that small.

I have the GA-Z68X-UD4-B3 motherboard. I am waiting for my arctic silver to break in a little but I might try overclocking with it tonight, I will post results somewhere.

Congratulations on your build. I love my Antec 300 case, just right size to sit on my window sill sucking all that cold air in from the window open 6 inches. You got to remember its the mainboard & graphic card length that dictates the size of case needed/air cooling. (Why have a "BUS" when a car is needed).

I have a thermaltake armor series full tower. With a 850w thermaltake psu. Looking at the prices of the mobo and card I might as well buy the rest and have two computers. It may be a couple weeks before I get the chip(ordered on special purchase) but I still want to have a good idea what I am gonna order.

Probably go with thermal take again for the psu unless anyone has a good reason for another brand. I like the modular cables.

Looking at the large antec cases, the card doesnt give length on newegg but it look like it will hang off the board a couple inches. Space isnt an issue... until I have to lug it to the hall at quakecon!

That case and power supply sound great. I see no reason to get anything new. I have a 6870 and there is still room in my mid-tower. I can imagine your full tower case will be just fine.

Yes that case & PSU will do the job perfect, why buy another case & PSU. The 6970 is 10.5 inches long, your case has no problem fitting this gfx card.

but you know what's the coolest? The P5E3 Deluxe...for some reason....has this new internet browser built into the BIOS.

that's right....I said bios. I can go to texasteamplayers.com from his bios splash page. Before I even installed windows.....before I even partitioned and formatted his harddrives.....even loaded the motherboard drivers.....I could get on the net.

why is that cool? It means when you're fucked, need a driver, and need it now....you can simply reboot, and get it onto your PC without having to load windows.

"Gateway Express" or something like that. Asus......are you just that bad ass?
This is what I currently have. Its still good shit, I just got a deal I couldnt pass up on the above hardware(i7/SSD). Thats my reasoning for keeping the old box intact. And when you consider the mobo/gpu/win7 is gonna cost $700 whats another $400 while I'm at it. Could probably recoup that by selling the old box if I wanted.
