    Visio isn't my favorite but it does work alright. Also if you map things properly with some of their more advanced tools you can take the visual representation and automagically export it to Access, which is pretty neat.

    There's plenty of free widget kits for diagramming networks. Most of the fancy network diagram programs basically take a list of devices and their interconnection and then render it in Visio. Port 1 of Switch A connects to Port 3 of Router B... etc

    Dia is a free diagramming tool like Visio. If you have Visio, it's likely your better bet.

    So regarding Visio, Can I diagram the entire network from one of the clients or is this something that has to be done on the server itself?
