Re: Need a New Computer
These are the most important things you got to think about at present time when building a new PC...
What will be your maximum resolution now or do you plan a LED backlit monitor upgrade to 2560x1440 ?
Do you want to play Arma 2 & Arma 3/released in 2012 ? (Arma 2/3 needs far more graphic card power than BF3)
You will need either 3x2gb/6gb(triple channel mainboard) or 2x4gb/8gb(dual channel mainboard) memory. 4gb is not enough for some games/screenshots can be provided.
Antec 300 illusion case does the job just fine/saving alot of money. (only have to purchase one 120mm fan for side panel extraction). I have the Antec 300 case & Trust me its 100% job done.
(There will be no performance gain in games/medium or high resolution detail gaming choosing a 2nd gen i7 CPU over first gen/only saving 35 watts power consumption. Money saving option/all the money you save can go towards a more powerful graphic card).
(Build your own rig,you will get a far more powerful PC with universal parts & not them rubbish custom mainboards that are built for companies like Dell. It is that simple a monkey could do it & Trust me i could do it blind folded. You cannot fail because all the plugs are all different meaning you can't plug the wrong thing in. If you want piece of mind i suggest webcam over live messenger with an expert over seeing/supervising)Last edited by stuntmanSLim; 07-27-11 at 09:10 AM.

Re: Need a New Computer
Thanks for the replies and help. What you all have responded really makes me think about what I haven't been thinking about.
@hannibal - damn, thank you for taking time to do that. When I go out to those sites, I have no idea which motherboard is better or worse than another.
@kracker - it is stong force by the family trying to steer me to the imac. No reason really they are pushing for it other than just what they are exposed with by friends, tv, ads, etc. I very well may have to do what you suggest.
@stuntmanslim - I truly haven't given a thought about the monitor. I'm playing on a 7 year 19" lcd (not wide screen). Does the monitor you asked about require anything special (i.e. graphics card)? Regarding your question on Arma and what comes out next summer, as you can see I keep my computers for a long time. I have just accepted over time that eventually my computer can't run newer games, so I stick with the games I really like. Regarding the montherboard, I believe what hannibal suggested meets the requirements you have suggested as well.
I'm still unsure what direction I will go - build, have it build, or off the shelf. I can certainly follow instructions to build one, I have built things all my life, but this is really out of my realm. What I'm concerned with is not seeing or knowing when something is not going correctly and I should have entered a different setting.
