What gpu do you have? Perhaps invest in a new graphics card if you have the upgrade itch.

Heavy, I got 2 5870's crossfire with accelero extreme coolers. Think I'm good on those for the time being.

    Re: Processor question

The only things that make a Phenom x6 better over the current intel generation is:

    1. upgrade path to bulldozer
    2. AMD specific instruction sets (MMX, Extended 3DNow!, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSE4a, AMD64, Cool'n'Quiet, NX bit, AMD-V)
    3. Highly optimized paralleled programs for high performance computation (research / development stuff)
    4. Price, (again for you not worth it as you already have the intel chip)

Some negatives with the current Phenom generation:

    1. Limited Northbridge/Southbridge bandwidth. (You'll see this with less than 100% utilization on video cards. The processor can't supply data fast enough in some cases)
    2. By default (standard) ram support is max 1333 mhz. Now this is easily fixed with overclocking or simply raising the ram multiplier..... but that is not guaranteed to work.
    3. The core design is old... hasn't been redesigned in 10 years or so. Intel is ahead on the core micro-architecture. What this means is amd is not doing the most efficient way to execute stuff (at least not for the current software practices)..... but they can shove a lot more cores in because they have mastered the production of them....

    Just something to think about....

    Re: Processor question

Well, the upgrade path for Sandy Bridge is still somewhat unknown at this point. There is still life in the Socket 1155 platform. Wait to see what Ivy Bridge and Sandy Bridge-E has to bring. I don't think they are done releasing CPUs for this socket and not everything is going to be on the Socket 2011 platform.

That being said, Bulldozer has some big shoes to fill if it expects to beat the price/performance of the Sandy Bridge CPUs. They are simply dominating the market right now, and rightfully so as they simply kick ass.
