Well, I'm getting one, but that's because I ordered one of those PC maintenance kits since I can't find my screw driver set. Oh well. Had those since I was a freshman. RIP

It also really depends where you are. Believe it or not, the chances of static electricity are much greater in dry climates. Since I live in Florida, I do not need a static band. It is still a good practice to ground yourself to the case before touching the components, just to be safe.

This. And since all of my tech work and time with computers has been in Louisiana, Ft. Lauderdale, and Houston...all humid

Well, it makes sense as the H2O is actually an insulator. It's the minerals and other stuff in water that let it conduct "well".

Good thing I'm getting one, I guess, since I'll be building it in Dallas.

For some reason I didn't realize this was in the PC hardware forum. For just PC's, I wouldn't bother with a wrist strap unless you are soldering something(used to be pretty common for laptop repair - I've been out of the PC/laptop repair game for a couple of years so dunno if thats still true). For anything else just touch the side of the case/something metal before working with the cards.
