GTX 470 is a great card, although they do run a bit hot. You will likely see similar performance, but i think the Crossfire setup would be able to squeak by in most games.
On the other hand, the GTX 470 would run quieter and consume less power than the dual card setup. I would probably get the single GTX 470 if I had a choice, then purchase a second one for SLI some time down the line.

Thanks heavy. Im having troubles with BF3 in the video cartegory, and I dont know why. So i was thinking of trading this guy on craigslist that wants to trade for the 470. I would like to think my Crossfire set up should be able to blaze on BF3, but so far, its been nothing but problems...

Kraker,
I was having issues (strange flashes with any peripheral movement) with my GTX 460's in SLI. Silly me, I had installed the NVidia Beta drivers without doing the appropriate uninstall of the old drivers. Use Guru3D - Driver Sweeper exactly as it says and see if it helps."A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."
