Android Apps

So I am finally getting a smartphone.....I know, welcome to 2001.

I have pretty much decided on the Samsung Galaxy GSII Epic 4G Touch (if for nothing else the absolutely ridiculous name). It was either that or the new iphone (loves me some itunes).

What Apps do I want, and what ones do I need?

TapaTalk of course....

But what about music? I have an extensive itunes collection (all ripped from cd's in Apple Lossless format), and would like a good app for syncing some tunes as well as podcasts. Anyone use DoubleTwist? Like it?

What others do you guys use?

And Bluetooth thingers....anyone use one?

I want one that fits securely and comfortably, and works well with sweat (I want to wear it at work and keep my phone safely tucked away). It also has to work well.....noise cancelling, as well as a decent mic.

And what is the range with those things? Will I be able to just keep my phone in a central location in my house and have it work? Or do I have to keep my phone in my pocket at all times?

I use the Bose Bluetooth headset. I love it, but if you are not speaking it will pick up and amplify background noise, but when you start speaking it blocks it out pretty well.

What kind of range do you get? Can you be in another room and have it work?

It is pretty good. I can walk around my house with my phone sitting on my desk. My buddy has one, and he left his phone in his truck and went in Taco Bell, and the call stayed connected until he went in the restroom.

Don't know enough to recommend one.

Range on Bluetooth depends on the power of the device. For a headset, the power will be low (so it'll last longer than 15 minutes) and the range limited. My experience is that you're ok if you're in the same room as your phone. You might be ok in the next room too.

Bluetooth operates in the 2.4 GHz range, so being around other devices that clutter that range can affect it (cordless phones, WiFi, baby monitors, microwave ovens).

I'm a big fan of the Jawbone line of bluetooth headsets. I've got a Jawbone Prime and love it. It fits securely and comfortably in your ear and I can pretty much walk around my entire house with my phone on my desk in my office and have it work. Noise cancellation works extremely well. I can be in my truck driving with the radio blasting and answer a call and the caller has no idea I have the music on.
