Looking for a 2 gb GPU under $299

Hey guys, im looking for a GOOD gpu of 2 gb for under $299. The cheaper the better. Some people point to gtx 560 ti, others to AMD 6950. What should I do? I wanna run Bf3 at Ultra settings.

    Right now I got a:

    Phenom II x6 3.2 GHz
    8 gigs RAM
    gtx 460 1 gb
    WIndows 7 Ultimate

    Thanks a lot!

Re: Looking for a 2 gb GPU under $299

According to DICE, no single card is going to run everything on ultra. They recommend dual GTX 580 for that.

That said... I am running a single 570GTX (1280MB) with everything on high (one setting was ultra but I didn't pay attention to what it was) at 1920x1200 and it was very smooth.

A single 560TI isn't too much slower than a 570, so that would be good. I think the 6950 might be a BIT slower than the 560 but they are comparable. And it's probably going to come down to who optimizes their drivers better anyway. Either card is going to be good and you will be able to crossfire if you go with the AMD/ATI card. Don't think your mobo will do SLI though.

Krakkens and shit. stop tempting them.

You can also flash the 6950 BIOS and make it a 6970...

Not always recommended for stability though. There is often a reason in the process why that wafer got binned to the 6950 instead of 6970 line.

A 3gb overclocked single GTX 580 might come close. It also depends on the resolution. One of the main issues with the high/ultra settings at high resolutions (> 1680x1050) is going to be texture memory, and you really want athe minimum 1.5gb of it. You can probably run "ultra" (basically the compute-intensive parts of ultra is going to be 4-8xMSAA, HBAO, and 16xAF) at 720p on a GTX 460...

I am running a single 560ti with a quad core @ 3ghz. It runs very smoothly 45-70 FPS) with most settings on high; but none on ultra.

The question I have is why would you want to run in ultra?

720p? i dont know what that is. The resolution I like in games and I run is my native, 1280 by 1024. But tell me how can I run those compute-intensive parts of ultra in my 460?

If Ultra requires a 3gb 580 then forget it , I wanna run it in high. My main concern is to be able to run it in High with plenty of fps and smoothness. Right now I run BC2 everything on high at 90-100fps constant. Thats what I want in BF3.

The reason I ask is when you run all on high your adding a bunch of needless eye candy that hinders what you see on the field. It's fine for single player or co-op but I wouldn't do it in multiplayer.
