11-06-11, 11:59 PM #1Root + Gingerbread
So, just finished rooting and installing Gingerbread onto my phone, an LG Optimus V. So worth it to learn how to do, Gingerbread is stupid fast compared to Froyo, and I can't wait to flash Ice Cream Sandwich onto here.
Number of times I bricked my phone in the process: 3

Re: Root + Gingerbread
I saw this topic, and thought is was about root beer and gingerbread cookies.
As for the topic, this is what I'm still rockin' after nearly three years:

Re: Root + Gingerbread
I actually just went from Eclipse's ROM of Froyo to Humble on Gingerbread 2.3.5 on my Charge and I can attest to this. Its not just the "shiny new" thing that is better, it truly is faster. The response times on the touch, the loading of apps, just the general flow of things is nicer and friendlier. I will say that the new radio seems to be bouncing around a little more, but it might just be giving a better reading on the actual service Im getting. Ive had a few force closes, but its most likely with the ROM and trying to restore things from Titanium Backup. Just ended up starting from scratch on my apps and havent had any issues. I would say the major thing I noticed is that I did some HEAVY lifting today reloading all my apps and using my phone and Im still at 34% of battery life. I havent even setup Juice Defender yet and can say thats really impressive.
Long story short: So far, so good.

Yeah, titanium won't let me restore any of my apps, but that's a given since I changed versions, not just ROMs. I am using Inferior Human Organs Cyanogenmod 7.1 ROMs. I think I should have kept ADWLauncher though, I for now opted to keep the stock launcher.

Re: Root + Gingerbread
I use Odin to flash and have never had a problem. I installed Swype beta as well but also am trying SwiftKey. If they ever incorporated the two I would buy it, but for now SwiftKey is hunt and peck and I really enjoy swyping. For one reason or another though, the dictionary is missing from Swype. If I get that back, I'll just stick with swype. So much faster...
