Need help plz
Ok so my new desktop parts arrived today ASRock z68 Extreme 7 gen3, Sandy bridge core i5, and 16GB G.skill ripjaws ram. I installed everything in my case with a 1000watt psu, Hooked everything up. Go to boot and i get "boot mgr is missing press ctr, alt, dele to restart" So i tried booting from the MOBO's disk and it gets me nowhere. Asks me if i wanna generate serial ata driver diskette or something, WHich obviously doesnt make any sense...So i decide to boot from my windows 7 disk...my OS doesnt show up and then it asks me to load my drivers, Which im unsure how to do...Plz ANYONE help me im so stummed by this, this should be a plug and play...I already have windows installed on my HDD if i didnt i wouldnt have been playing l4d2 this morning...I shoulda just been able to plug in my HDD to the motherboard and boot, but i cant..Plz help..

Re: Need help plz
One other thing that has me concerned is that the BIOS is reading the CPU temp at 67c and it hasnt even done an actual boot up yet...I made sure i spread the Thermal paste evenly...

Anytime you upgrade your motherboard, you need to do a completely new Windows installation. I highly recommend that you backup your files from that drive (if you can) onto another drive/device, then do a complete reinstall/reformat.
As for the temps... sometimes you can have too much thermal compound on your CPU cooler which is causing the higher temps. You also might need to tighten down your CPU cooler a bit more. sometimes if the CPU cooler is not firmly fastened, your temps can skyrocket.
Anyways, reformatting your drive and doing a new Windows install is probably not what you wanted to hear, but anytime you get a new motherboard, you should always do a reinstall to avoid issues like the one you are currently having.

Re: Need help plz
Ok sooo im doing a fresh install, However beforei did that i was trying different ideas with my thermal paste. THe first time i tried it the temps went up to 92c and idled there, I shut it down and decided to clean off the heat sink AND CPU and just redo it all completely. Did all this, put it all back together and got it to stable out at 63c again, Still high but its manageable. In the end i guess i have to get a new heatsink as the one that came with this cpu is garbage, IT doesnt screw in, its like plastic clips that u push down into the motherboard then turn to lock them in...Ty heavy G for the info! I was completely unaware that i had to do a fresh install.

Re: Need help plz
63 C is very high, unless you are overclocking. The improvement after re-applying thermal paste suggests that that may be a big part of your issue. It is possible to apply too much paste; here's the application method that Arctic Silver recommends for AS 5 on an i5 CPU: http://www.arcticsilver.com/pdf/appm..._line_v1.1.pdf.
However, you may well have a defective heatsink; temps on an idling system without overclocking should be significantly lower than you're getting. Even the stock cooler should do a lot better than that. Did all 4 pins engage properly? Re: Need help plz
Ya, Well after i removed it all completely and reapplied it and loaded up the comp the temps went Way down now runs at 39c or 102f, the mobo when finally installed the drivers gave me some features that lets me control what temps i allow the fans to run at, So i turned all of them all the way down and it runs like a champ now. Im still prolly gonna end up getting a new Heatsink cause im still not pleased with this intel one.
