My old skull candy headset was great, fell apart after a year of hard use... The G35 is 2 yrs now and still like new. Both cost the same. Headsets are only as good as the maker lets them be. I have a friend who bought the G35's for her to listen to music with, she loves the build and sound..
Gaming headsets and audiophile headsets are made with different things in mind. One is focused on making explosions and other big sounds feel all encompassing while still making short, sharp noises audible. The other is focused on reproducing the sounds sent to it as accurately as possible with a little color added to it for personal taste.

Typically, audiophile headsets can produce a wider range of sounds, and do so with less mud and other audio artifacts. They usually do this at a cheaper price, too. Many/most people can't tell the difference between a decent gamer headset and a highend headphone hooked up to an amp. Unfortunately for me, I can. As a result, I spend more money than most on my audio equipment since my ears can hear the little flaws in cheaper headphones and most headsets. I have the same problem with TVs, too. I can't help but see the flaws in any TV set that is not on the same level as the Pioneer Kuros.

And my mic sounds like bongos because I use a mechanical keyboard with a desktop mic, on a small wooden desk that reverberates to a ridiculous degree. I really, really need a new desk.

I can afford one right now! I'm just extraordinary lazy and don't wnat to actually go and find one that I like, fits in my area, and from a company willing to deliver and bring it up stairs. I probably going to finally look into one when I get some time off after the holidays.

See I must be one of those cant tell the difference people, because I tested side by side the G35s ($125 then) against a Bose headset ($160ish then) and they sounded identical all except clarity, which the bose had. Not worth the additional $35 then an external mic...

I run a set of Astro a40s to a mix amp then fiber obtic to my rig. I really like the quility. I had to replace the microphone once but thats about the only issue I have had with them. It is a pretty $$$ compaired to your other options however.

Bose are well-known for being overpriced. $200 Bose heaphone would give you the same sound quality and have less durability than a $135 from a different brand. The thing you get with Bose is that all their stuff does sound good so it is a safe buy if you don't do research. It just costs you more to buy.

Not the best, but they've served me well for nearly a year (and relatively cheap):

Newegg.com - PLANTRONICS .Audio 355 3.5mm Connector Circumaural Stereo Headset

Guyver, do you know if any sound card has come out that is better than the Asus Xonar Essence? It has a built-in headphone amp, has a great sound with no feedback, and has good fake surround for stereo headphones. My only issue with it is that the drivers have always been buggy for me. I have to disable/re-enable the driver every time I close EVE since it goes to a repeating loop that is so damn irritating.
