I have to disable/re-enable the driver every time I close EVE since it goes to a repeating loop that is so damn irritating.

I don't know much about it. I just know that like you said, the drivers are buggy...because the guys at foobar2000 made a workaround...lol.

Oh I guess I sh Eould mention a something that is worthwhile no matter what you get. There are two main types of headphones/sets: closed-back and open-back.

Closed-back headphones don't allow sound in. They are noise blocking. Great if you want to be completely immersed in something and don't want a random noise to interrupt you. They are usually bigger and heavier since they tend to cover your entire ear.

Open-back headphones are pretty much the opposite. They allow sound in, which is good if you have something you want to pay attention to happening in the background (kids, pets, significant others, etc.). These are typically lighter and rest on top of your ears.

I personally prefer open-back since I hate being oblivious to my surroundings, but it is completely up to personal preference.

I use the psyko headset. Sound quality is mediorce but positional audio is excellent. I had some issues with my but support's always fixed it. I think they have a newer version that's less prone to problems and has better sound. Psyko Audio Labs

Turtlebeach just came out with a new headset that has 4 speakers in each ear cup. PC Gaming Headset with 5.1 Surround Sound | Ear Force Z6A | Turtle Beach

It won't be as positionally accurate as my psyko's but sound quality will be better. The surround headsets with one speaker for left and right I don't think work as well for positional audio. They're good but not as good as either the psyko or turtlebeach for picking out where objects are.

The psyko and turtlebeach are both analog headsets needing a soundcard. Most of the other surround headsets are USB and won't use your soundcard. So if you have a soundblaster like me, you'd need something non-usb if you want to take advantage of it (to the best of my knowledge).

For its price range, absolutely nothing beats Logitech G35's. Something around $100-$120 depending on where you get em, the 930's are the wireless version of them. Stellar sound quality with great bass, they're USB, they're durable (I've kicked mine pretty hard wearing steel toed boots and they are still perfectly fine), and the mic is the best mic I've ever encountered outside of professional equipment.

They're pretty comfortable, too, even for a mutant like me.

Re: Time for a new headset

I have to admit I would like to get a Asus Xonar Essence card, beautiful sound card and I would love to have a good built in amp... (Then I would be looking at Seinheisser PC350's) So it looks like consensus is for headsets the G35 is the best option but if I can go the option of headphones with a separate mic.

Re: Time for a new headset

Hate to be the odd man out here, but I hated my G35s. The thing was top heavy, the mic on it won't fold up, and I would get constant audio crashes. The sound quality was nice, but the build quality was total shit compared to other Logitech things I own.

I personally like my Plantronic Gamecom 777, but it does let a lot of noise in (if that sort of thing bothers you).
    Why no rank?

Because that isn't why or how I play.
