Aren't tank kills on a team game meaningless anyway? It doesn't consider who did how much damage, just who landed the last shot, right? So you could get owned right at the start, be lying on the ground while your teammates do all the work and just land the last lucky pistol shot and get the "kill".
I think that L4D stats and rank are a really difficult thing to evaluate. KPM is a pretty good indicator, but pipes and mollies can skew those numbers too. Total points vs total play time is pretty interesting, but really I think that more weight needs to be given too killing SI (or maybe damage to SI), clearing teammates (with more points given for faster clears), and protecting teammates (it would be really cool if there was a way to measure protecting a incap'ed player who is being helped up).
On SI, it would be cool if there was a way of scoring combo hits: points for doing damage within a certainly amount of time of a teammate doing damage and maybe "assist points" where setting up a charge with a smoke or jockey would earn some "ding, ding, ding".
