Enter the Steam control panel then select the "My Games" tab. Right click "Left 4 Dead"
and select the "Properties" option. Select the "Set Launch options..." option. Enter
-console as a launch option. Start the game. A console window will appear at the main
menu. Type bind c toggleconsole then press [Enter] at the console window to allow the
console window to also appear during game play. Close the console window, then begin
game play by selecting the "Play Campaign", "Play Versus" or "Play Single Player"
options.
Note: If you are not in single player mode, you must also do the following steps to
allow cheat codes to be used. Select "Play With Friends". Select the "Create Lobby"
option. Select either "Campaign Mode" or "Versus Mode". Enter the "Game Settings:
Friends-Only Game" menu and change "Server Type" to "Local Server".
After you game is in progress, press C to display the console window, then enter one
of the following codes to activate the corresponding cheat function.

Start the game. Display the console window and type Exec 360controller.cfg then set
your split screen mode with the following console codes: "ss_splitmode 1" ("Horizontal-Cut"
for standard monitors) or ss_splitmode 2 ("Vertical-Cut" for widescreen monitors). Connect
to a server. Join the server with the connect [IP address] 2 console code. You must now
set the Xbox 360 controller to player two (with the light on the Xbox logo pointing to "2").
To do this, quickly unplug and reinsert the Xbox 360 controller while the game is running.
You can now play in Co-op mode in split-screen.
Shot the Car in the First Level:
--------------------------------
If you shot the car in the first level, the best thing you can do is take off down towards
the safe point. And lock the door.
Play as infected:
-----------------
Enable the "ent_fire !self setteam 3" code. After spawning and dying, press [Jump] until
the camera changes into free roam mode. Then, enable one of the following "z_spawn" codes
to play as that type of infected.
z_spawn smoker
z_spawn tank
z_spawn boomer
z_spawn hunter
Apartment Skip:
---------------
If you want to save a bit of time in campaign mode you can skip the entire apartment
part of the first level. When you begin on the roof, turn around and look past the glass
roof. You will see a couple of fans near the floor, jump over to them and you will survive
from anywhere from 20 - 50 health.
Reload While Hitting:
---------------------
If you haven't noticed this yet in Left4dead you can reload, hit a zombie and the game will
see it as if you didn't do anything but still reloading, so if you rune out of ammo start
reloading hit any nearby zombies and then you will have reloaded your gun.
Hot Swap:
---------
If you need to 'reset' your primary weapon to its original (cherry) state, pick up a weapon
different from yours, then re-select the weapon you want. This is faster than reloading (plus
the time used from replenishing from the ammunition pile), and can help in close-call rescue
finales.
Reloaded Defence:
-----------------
When reloading any weapon, your survivor can keep attacking with the melee button. The
reloading sequence will continue unabated.
Fire. And Lots Of It:
---------------------
The infected cannot extinguish fires once they are ignited (all modes - but especially in
versus mode). Use that to your advantage in the campaign by using the molotov (or igniting
gas cans) on tough targets like Tanks and Witches.
Speed Life:
-----------
As the director's commentary points out, the Tank can be outrun by any survivor with green
(51% or more) health, but the Tank can overtake any survivor with 50% of less life, because
the more injured a survivor is, the slower s/he moves. Pain pills will boost the speed of
an injured survivor, although the color of the life bar will reflect his/her original
health status.
