Thread: CAnt install left 4 dead

iv had this problem on two computer6 a hp pavilion 2.5ghz and 2 gigs of ram.with a 256 video card so i meet the system requierments.basically when i insert the cd i install steam then try to install the game but when it says preparing to install files it just sits there doing that for hours. so it wont install from the dvd because the dvd is sitting idle in the drive.someone please help.

hey figured out that the game is trying to download the game instead of using the dvd but i have dial up so someone please help me get this top install from dvd

actualy one time it said it was installed for some odd reason when it wasnt the i booted up the cd and it said play reinstall uninstall support so i said reinstall and it started installing from the dvd because the dvd is 6 gigs steam is not but a meg or two plus if you browse the dvd it has the disk on it but in a wierd format called .sid so ive done it but it would not luanch it said game unavalible.so please help i realy want to play this game.

*.sid files are steam back up files all I can find on using them is

To restore a backup, all you need to do is double click on the executable file (the first file of your backups).

Made one of one of my smaller games to test it.

There should be an .exe (when you make one of an existing game it's called steambackup.exe in the same level as were you find the .sid files) and all you have to do is run that to restore them... so that means you're looking for another *.exe file.

there is also a .sim and a .sis bu the only . exe is thesteam autorun setup basicaly when i install it say left 4 dead retial and when i download it it just says left 4 dead.

hey found out what to do.basically you browse the dvd then select the setup.exe on a slow connection it will take about two to three hours to download needed files.then after it is done go to the dvd then hit reinstall then it will install from the dvd.im doing it now ill post if it works out on my side hope this helps.
