Your computer doesn't meet the minimum requirements needed to run the game (and you didn't specify your graphics card), but people have managed to get the game running on similar systems. Unfortunately, unless your computer meets or exceeds the minimum requirements (3gHz processor or 2gHz dual core, 128MB graphics card, 1GB ram), there's no way of saying for sure whether the game will run or not.

Should be fine.
I have everything exact to you do, however, if you don't have a decent video card, Left 4 Dead will not run smoothly for you. My video card is an ATI Radeon X850 (dont know the Video memory). My computer is close to 5 years old, and I have no problem whatsoever running Left 4 Dead. On a side note, I record videos using FRAPS while playing it, and don't experience video lag.
Also, this link will help you determine better: Can You RUN It?

As long as you have a decent video card, with at least 258mb of discrete memory, any Source game to date that you play, will be easily playable. Source games are the most undemanding games ever, but Left 4 Dead does get there at points.
As well you have XP, and not Vista, so 1gb of RAM to play Left 4 Dead is easily enough.
nVidia 7000 series or higher,
ATI series equal or higher to this:

Then you'll be able to play L4D.
