Connection lost as soon as I join a server
So, right now I cannot create or join a lobby without instantly being disconnected with the message "Connection with session has been lost". Tonight I was playing with two other friends. We created a dedicated friends-only game (which a non-friend somehow joined, but that's another story). We decided to quit and start a new game, so we all did. However, after we all quit none of us could join or create a lobby. Yes, all three of us have the same issue.
I've found many others with this issue, but it seems they either are using a cracked version or they've had the problem from the instant they installed the game. Our issue started happening now, for all of us, at the same time. We all have legit copies of the game, purchased back during the November release. So far I have tried or discovered this:
* It is NOT a problem caused by a cracked version of the game. All copes are 100% legit.
* It is NOT a hardware problem. We all have very sufficient (and different) computers.
* It is NOT a port forwarding/router issue. We are all on different networks, and they all worked flawlessly for us before.
* I have verified the local game cache, which didn't find any errors.
* I tried deleting the steam_appid.txt file, with no luck.
* I have not tried reinstalling the game, since that's a "fix" like the way installing a new engine "fixes" your "Check Engine" light. Plus, if this happens again I can't be reinstalling the game every time.
Anyone have any things for me to try? It seems safe to say that the problem lies with Steam, due to the fact that three separate computers running different hardware on different networks all died at the same time.
I'll check back tomorrow. Thanks in advance.

same problem here
Hey yeah same exact error message here.
In the console I get:
csession: createsession failed. error 25
I've tried the dedicated hosting option, local hosting and I've also tried using my other computer to run both a local and internet dedicated server. This just happened today (Feb 20, 2009 10PM) right after finishing a game of versus with some friends.
My friends are all experiencing the same issue with attempting to create a new session. A couple of them were able to connect to a public server already in progress.

I just tried it this morning and I can create lobbies again. I didn't go any farther than that, but it seems it works now.
Strange that it only lasted last night. This could still be annoying if you wanted to play a L4D marathon. Anyone have any insight into this? Anyone still affected by this?

If the Steam servers are having problems or are down for maintenance, that is one of the symptoms. If it all of a sudden works again, you can probably bet on Steam being the issue.
