Thread: "Stopping Search"

Hey all. Been playing the PC version since release with no problems whatsoever. But tonight, when I try to join a server, as soon as I hit "join" the pop up says "stopping search" and it goes back to main menu. Also, for some reason whenever I try to join a Versus game, it gives me a little dialogue about how "Versus is for players who have mastered campaign mode, blah blah blah". I've played versus more times than I care to admit and have never seen this. I have made no hardware/software changes since the last time I played two days ago. Any ideas?

i've had this happen to me. what happened was steam went into offline mode for some reason, and the game is treating it as a fresh install (hence the warning about versus). exit the game and restart steam, then go back in game and it should be fine.

I had the same problem. Sorted it out by pressing the shift+tab combo in the menu and acessing the friends list.

I'm having the same problem. I exited a game, tried to go into a new one, and immediately got that problem. I tried restarting steam, doing shift+tab, checking online mode, everything. I'm still getting the problem.

What's worse is that it acts as if all my achievements are gone. Argh...

They are doing server maintenance right now, should be up again soon and when the steam servers are back up, your achievements will show again.
