Thread: I don't see the point in L4D clans...

02-22-09, 03:33 PM #11I can see why people enjoy games like CS and Battlefield competitively, but as far as I'm concerned, I don't feel like L4D was supposed to be played that way - it was designed with the feel that it should be 4 near-strangers united by a common goal, be it to survive, or to wipe out the survivors - and the team who adapts to their teammates' playstyles fastest will usually win out - it shouldn't be a game where the team with the fastest average reaction time wins, or the team who hides in the right closet at the right time.
Maybe that's just idealistic of me. :-/
The only games that should be played competitively are Starcraft , Warcraft and Counter strike. No others games even come close imo. They are all over 6years old and still run the show. Not to mention playing those games competitively is actually fun compared to alot of other games but i guess thats down to how polished and balanced they are.
Left 4 dead is far from balanced in versus. Ive seen teams get 8 medkits while the other team only gets 4-5. And ive seen survivors get a molotov on no mercy1 inside the apartment and tank spawns they kill the tank and get to the safe room. Second team starts and what do u know not a single molotov they have been replaced by pipe bombs.
I bet listening to a left 4 dead league match is hillarious with all the screams and crys of balance and who got more than who.

What difference does it make knowing you're playing against another clan? I bet i could assemble a team better than ALOT of 'clans' by just inviting a couple of random adds from my steam friends.
And we'd have more fun, then you'd be gutted cause you lost to some randoms on a pub server
Playing L4D doesn't require skill. So it cant really be that competetive. Other than seeing who gets furthest through each map.
Plus the game can be biased, giving more med packs, molotovs etc.
Also the infected team will know where the tank spawns, so next round they will be more prepared.
L4D shouldn't be played as a clan. It's just not right

You Have to consider the possibilities though. This game is far from finished/polished or balanced. And there is loads of content to be added in the next year or two.
Theres a very good chance this game could become incredible competitive so i understand why people are putting there roots in place early and starting clans.
This game is also very easy to mod. It wouldnt surprise me if by summer time Certain left 4 dead leagues have there own custom tournament campaigns and maps that are incredible fun and very balanced.
It always takes roughly from 6 months to 2 years before a game becomes properly balanced and polished. With the popularity and addictiveness of this game rising more and more each month it wouldnt surprise me if this game got added to CPL within the next year or so and became highly competitive and even professional like Counter strike.
As it stands now though this game is not finished or balanced. But there is nothing wrong with having a clan early on it actually gives you some advantage. As when the time comes where competitive play is balanced and fun people with clans already can just jump right in on the action.

I've played bad clans and really, really good clans. Now I'm no slouch, but with 3 other pubs against a good clan you don't have a prayer.
That said, I no longer play with friends, because it's just too easy to take out most pubbers. On occasion we will get pummeled by pubs, but very rarely. Because of this, people leave and the game ends prematurely. I'd prefer to pub it and maybe get a bit frustrated due to getting owned by a good clan than have everyone on the other team quit. Plus, I'm always up for a challenge.
All that said, I think clans are really fun in scrims and to pal around with friends. My friends list is too extensive to sort through generally, so having a separate clan for L4D is great. It separates ppl into a smaller group for me.Gaming, it's wuts for dinner :P
