Haven't played in a few weeks, up till then everything worked perfectly, now steam showed as "updating" once i started it, steam then loads, but game will not launch whether i try to launch it from within steam itself or whether i put the dvd in, whats up with this? i click on my desktop icon & it'll say "Preparing to launch Left 4 dead" but then NOTHING happens, game doesn't start, whats up with this

    Sorry, I missed this post.

Do you have a personal firewall or Windows Firewall software running? If so, make sure you allow the EXE permission to execute. If there was an update, some firewalls detect that the EXE has updated and they will deny permission until you set the permissions again.

Welll for starters, I would roll your video driver back to the 178 (6.14.0011) version. The one you have has had some issues, especially with L4D.

I would also go into Steam and verify the integrity of your game files to see if anything got hosed during an update.

I ended up uninstalling & reinstalling the game (not steam). Well upon upon reinstalling, the game showed in steam as "updating" like forever, it was unbeleavable. I continually kept checking the integrity of my game files & even kept checking the "game updates" as it seemed like steam was hanging or was somehow stalled in it's dl of the game, even tho i own the dvd-disc, which made no sense. Well EVENTUALLY, after i just kept occasionally clicking on "check the integrity of your game files" it FINALLY finished updating the game & it started, it was cool too that i didn't lose none of my perks that i won from within the game, steam kept everything, my settings & all. And i did update my video driver to a previous driver, 178.24 driver which seems to run the game great, game screams again on my custom made gaming rig, WOOT!!!
