I would break into a zoo upon learning of the infection, find a polar bear, wrestle and force it to be my ally...the polar bear would be my weapon.
If the polar bear dies for some reason, I'll resort to chainsaw, holding onto as much fuel as I could for it, and a shotgun becuase Its essential that we have something to destroy the brains. I would also make plenty of molotovs, a beer bottle, gas and a rag with matches is you need...

Sledge Hammer, maybe a pistol (I'm thinking practical, not a lot of m-16's in NYC).
Go into a random apartment building. Break the stairs down if I can with the sledge hammer. Clear out the apartment building. Enjoy! For the most part there will be plenty of food in all the apartments. And Hope it's not crowded.

i'm down with the sailboat idea.
the whole apartment complex/house, knocking down the stairs thing is a solid idea, but there's always the chance of something going wrong when you are surrounded by zombies. ie someone goes crazy, runs for it, gives away your location, and you're bantha fodder.
with a sailboat or large water vessel, you are completely isolated from everything else (except for the rare exception of zombie pirates). besides the occasional docking to refuel, resupply, relooting, you would be almost guaranteed safety 100% of the time.
so, if there really is a zombie apocalypse one day, you'll know where to find me.

I'm going underground. I don't know about you guys but we have an old storm/nuclear shelter near my home. I'd take down all the can food I can, a few shotguns, a couple of rifles, two pistols, and all the ammo I have laying around. I'd also my scanner and CB radio down there with me and just try to hold out until things blow over.
If things didn't blow over I'd attempt to make my way to wherever there are other survivors. I have enough gas on the farm to make it to almost anywhere I'd want to go and a large selection of cars and trucks to choose from. I'd probably end up taking the old GMC truck we own...it is pretty good on gas and it is dependable..plus if I need to go off-road I can without any problems.
I like the sailboat idea. If that was an option for me I'd prefer it over having to go underground.

I like the sailboat idea as well, but I'm wondering is a large lake might not be the ticket? Then you have fresh water and if you can't find your "hot female sailor", you aren't stuck trying to navigate the ocean for the first time.
I know it sounds a bit scary in a sense, because the zombies could walk out to you on the bottom of the lake, but I am guessing a deep lake would do the trickNot to mention, large lakes that are fairly isolated might be better for not being discovered.
Gaming, it's wuts for dinner :P
