Well, you and I both know that many of the people who are playing on expert just want an achievement, so have the achievement require the melee counter (from now on, I'll refer to it as 'MC') so if the people who want the achievement have to have that teamwork, skill and luck to make it by, but if (hypothetically) me and my 3 pals want to play expert, just for the heck of it, and we just can't seem to make it past the third level, we have the option to turn off the MC. I'm not saying that you should be able to change it in-game, although it does seem like I'm implying that.

You know, like in many games, there is a 'super hard' difficulty, reserved for the '1337est of the 1337', but there is also the group of pals who wants a challenge, but doesnt want it to be ridiculous.

Also, not implying that I cant beat expert, or anything without corner camping. I had to pick someone for an example and I just picked me.

But how is disabling the melee counter to help you get through an Expert campaign any different to, say... an infinite ammo cheat? If you wanted to just have a mess around with your buddies, you can always just get a server and turn on god mode or something.

What you seem to be saying is that you want a challenge, but not *too* much of a challenge... if that's the case, I believe that's why 'Advanced' difficulty exists. If you can't handle expert mode, don't play expert mode, don't just play "expert" mode with an option switched on that makes a group of players and a good camping position nigh-on unkillable.

(Oh, and to clarify, "you" is a collective thing, not just you, Chuck. )

We Can't. Were on 360 and I don't want to get Permbanned for modding.

See, therein lies my problem. Advanced is too easy. In L4D1, Expert was just right. Easy as long as you stay far away from infected, and take them down from a distance. Sure, there were times when it all went to hell and we had to do the same level four times, but it was fun because the difficulty was just right. And while a MC adds another layer of balance and fairness, I don't see why you shouldnt have the option to turn it off if you were to start your own server.

Without wishing to start a console vs PC war (because I hate that kind of thing more than you could possibly imagine), that is unfortunately the price you pay for console gaming. Yes, it's considerably cheaper, but you lose a great deal of flexibility and customisation.

And Chuck, I actually agree with you - I too feel that Advanced was a touch too easy in L4D1 - but how much of that was the dreaded melee spamming? Think about it - if you lose that 'insurance' that no matter how badly it goes wrong you can always melee your way out of it, suddenly Advanced looks a lot tougher.

Well, I'm just glad that there is no Fatigue for the actual Melee weapons such as the Axe or Frying Pan or whatever. I guess there trying to balance this out.

While it holds true that there is no fatigue for the melee weapons, you need a second to switch from gun to axe, and then you'll be dealing damage to your team if you don't aim carefully. For denying hunters and things of the sort, the normal old melee probably will still be king. Melee fatigue is the best thing to happen to this game since guns and zombies.

See, I play SO much versus that when I play single player, it's engraved into my mind I only have 5 quick melees.

It took me an entire run through of blood harvest to realize I didn't have the fatigue meter.

So I stood there and melee'd. For 5 minutes.

Removing melee fatigue makes the game so much more interesting.

Chet spoke some of the wisest words, 'the best way to play isn't always the funnest way, and we don't like that' If you go and play Left 4 Dead without using shoddy tactics like camping and melee spamming, with a group, you'll find left 4 dead so much more enthralling.

Try playing a survival map without picking the best spot. I remember the first time we played the Hospital on Survival, we tried one room because we thought there was only one entrance, though when it started about 10 zombies came out of the vents and then soon after the walls behind us broke down, leading us on a five minute epic fight, moving from room to room trying to find cover.

Fight all the crescendo events properly, don't resort to stacking and melee spamming. You'll have much more fun.
