I understand your own personal preference, but as a representative of the forums, neither myself or any of the staff can be seen to be encouraging people to try and get the game to run on a system that cannot support it.

As for being "90% sure", that's all well and good, but what are you basing that '90% sure' on? I'm basing my opinion on nearly a year of reading people's problems and errors with getting L4D to run in this section, and I'd say the odds are considerably lower than that.

Please be careful when you're offering advice without foundation, as although your intentions are good, if someone shells out £30/$45 on a game on your advice and it then doesn't work, they're not going to be happy with you, or with the forums as a whole.

It's not playable in some games but fps games it is usually playable.
I CAN get the framerate much higher if I want, but I'm gonna first see if I prefer it as it is.
And I'm 90% sure it'll start up just nicely
I would love it if you would try playing at 10fps and let us know how it works. L4D is a much more graphic intensive game than other Valve games. I am fairly confident that your 10fps will drop the first time you run into a large hoard of zombies coming at you.

But, I would love to be proven wrong.

    Wink

Umm.. I don't even know where to start...
First, I'm not really trying to give advice, more like seeking for it.
But now that I have found some, I buy the game at my own risk.

    Then.
The huge load of zombies IS most possibly the bottom of 10 fps.
I, as well am not sure it'll run so super good, and I don't want anyone to let his/hers money depend on my tales. I'm just giving it a shot.

Thank you for all your advice and sorry for wasting your time.

And to those who read these to base their offer on my guessing, DON'T!

    Hi

I'm trying to run L4D on my HP2230s laptop. Just bought it on discount, so it's not a lot of money wasted.
    The specs are:
    Intel Duo T5870 2GHz
    4 GB RAM
And the famous Intel GMA 4500MHD graphic card

At first I was having troubles running it. It was lagging really bad. Couldn't really aim and I sat all setting on the lowest.
But i've been reading on different forums, that it actually can be "playable". So i'll still give it a try and see if I can tweak some things.
I thought of updating the drivers to the card and so I did. That really didn't help. Tried 2 drivers: First the latest and then what it automatically updated (perhaps it was the next latest or something like that), but then whenever I started a game or joined one, the sound just crashed and so picture came up. So I went back to my old driver from HP. But it is was released for almost a year ago, so I'm thinking if they couln't be a newer driver outthere, which could work?

And what are those command you can try typing in the console to nerf the graphics or whatever it does?

Okay, You can do three things: (I will add more later once i try things)

    1) Turn down all settings to low, even sound effect settings to low, because sound also uses the CPU. *Don't forget to slide the graphical detail bar all the way down.

    2) Optional: If you don't like the haziness, run it in window mode, that should also help with the frame rate. All you need to do is right click the shortcut to L4D, and check run in window mode. Or just go in the L4D settings menu.

    3) Switch your computer to high performance mode.

In the end, my laptop runs this game fine, i recommend a cooling pad, or propping up your laptop with an eraser or something.

Also: Intel GMA 4500MHD runs L4D better than Intel GMA 4500M. If you have an Intel Core2Duo, you have a 4500MHD. Intel Pentium Dual-Core uses 4500M.
