I'm having the exact same problem =\ It's only since the last patch in August. /sigh. Ive tried all of the things suggested in

    http://www.left4deadforums.com/3363-...e-posting.html

Absolutely no luck. Sometimes I can play for more than 2 minutes, sometimes I get a whole round in. Most of the time however it's frozen within 2 minutes.

    WTB a fix

Here is another link that may help with "Display Driver nvlddmkm stopped responding issues. This is a Vista update. You may already have it but it is worth a look.

I have found that the crash is directly related to the nvlddmkm.sys file and left4dead.exe.
I have gone as far as to do a full system restore to try to solve the problem however the crashes persisted. This rules out any errors that might be in windows.

I found some posts on other game forums, where the users were getting the same basic error. One of the suggestions was to power down, remove the video card and memory sticks, make sure the edge connectors are clean, blow out the slots and reinstall the memory and video card.

Then remove all video drivers from your system, use Driver Cleaner or something similar to remove an leftover driver files.

Then reinstall the latest video driver and see what happens.

Another thing to think about....How about your graphics card?

I sent my Evga GTX 260 back for repair recently. It had blue artifacts and would go black screen or sometimes display that blue screen nvlddmkm error message. Might be worth trying another card if you have a spare.

Finally got sick of tech support so I just said screw it, opened up the laptop, took out the heatsink and video card and what do I find? The thermal compound is completely melted away and the video card in rather poor condition. Got on the phone with customer support ordered a new heatsink and video card. Now my computer runs like new and the error is completely fixed . Thank you every one for your suggestions.
