I think I would delete your local content, log out of your computer, then log back in as administrator, not a user with admin privileges. Then reinstall the game.

And you don't need to be bumping a thread after only 2 minutes have gone by. That is a good way to get yourself removed from the forums.

I appreciate that you are in a hurry to get this resolved, but this forum is not officially affiliated with Valve or Left 4 Dead, it is run by volunteers like me who are just trying to help out fellow gamers.

I have the same problem, its not the permissions thing (i have XP)
I enter the game then when im in the main menu after 2 seconds the game closes without error message, i did "Verify Integrity of game cache" and i restarted the steam, but still doesnt work.

thats happened to me before when DLC released but after few days its fixed without doing anything
