Doors are your friend. You can shoot through them pre-emptively without destroying them totally.

You can shoot through breakable 'zombie walls' and kill some of the zombies on the other side before they break it down.

Oxygen tanks don't explode instantly... useful as an improvised timed-explosive trap.

You can trade molotovs for pipe bombs and vice versa. This means in Survival mode for example, you can make a cache of pipe bombs/molotovs in whatever spot you choose, like you can have a pile of six or more pipe bombs in the generator room rather than the usual two pipe bombs that are in there.

Burning common infected normally do not attack you. And last I checked the fire on them does not hurt you. Shooting them is a waste of bullets and time.

You don't have to go all the way into a safe room to shut the door. If it is open you can run up and face it, close it, and it will PUSH you inside the safe room as it closes. This can actually be useful for fast escapes.

Be careful at safe rooms. Infected - Specials included - can be IN the safe room, aside from the crazy guy on Death Toll. Witches can spawn in the doorway, hunters, boomers, smokers and even TANKS can be inside the safe room. So don't let down your guard.
