xbox 360 severe lag, on and offline

Just purchased left for dead for xbox 360. When playing either on or offline, there is such bad lag whilst shooting or when there is alot of action on screen it renders game unplayable.

Have cleared xbox memory and tried loading again. Disc is clean, no scratches. Internet speed is fine (although i doubt it is my connection as other games work fine online, plus problem persists when playing offline so internet connection seems irrelevant??). For what its worth i have no issues when playing left for dead 2. Does anybody have any ideas as to what i can do to fix this. Thanks in advance.

Are you playing it off the disc, or have you installed it to your hard drive?

Maybe try installing it to the hard drive and see if the performance increases.

Tried installing the disc onto the harddrive and it won't let me as it says it can't read due to scratch, dirt etc. Not an obvious scratch as far as I can tell but it would appear there is a problem with the disc. Shall return disc to shop and try again with another. Not the best news but with a bit of luck at least I now know where the problem lies. Thanks for the help, much appreciated.
