VPS Servers for L4D, Multiple Games Without The Rediculous Cost

Hi guys, one of my buddys really got into left 4 dead and started looking to buy a L4D Server. I'm the owner of a Hosting Company and after seeing some of the cost for your own server I got to thinking. These servers are just simple applications and you should be able to get 100% control to them for cheap.

If you buy a VPS you have to worry about latency, a lot of people are use to seeing a 60-80 ping. At our data center we use a Tier 1 connection, basically this means were not buying bandwidth through 3 other providers.

Don't believe me? Ping us, vbox1.beyondhosting.net Our pings average 20-30ms across the US.

So for everyone here I would like to offer our 384mb VPS for $19.99/Mo and we help you with installation of SRCDS. This gives you root access to a linux console, you can use it for web hosting, game hosting, vent/teamspeak, database, absolutely any thing that you can think of that runs on linux or wine.

Call us or open live chat, you can contact me directly on skype at bh-tyler.

Use coupon code l4d2 at checkout to receive free l4d2 server support and an extra 5% off our low prices. But guys paying for SLOTs?? is just ridiculous, you could run 3 left 4 dead servers for $19.. + customized stats.

384MB of RAM can really only run 1 L4D2 server. You have Burstable RAM setup for 768MB but how long does the burst last? Most game hosting companies do not cap the upload like you do they have unlimited both ways, 250GB is not enough for a game server. This is a chart of a 4 man moded L4D2 Server it uses 325MB of RAM when all 4 players are playing, so an 8 man server will be using more RAM than that. I have seen what a L4D2 server without enough RAM does, your pings will be good but the server will start lagging and it won’t stop till it crashes, but you will have a good ping the whole time X).

One of our Public 8 slot L4D2 game servers cost $9.92, so 2 game servers would cost $19.84 Plus the 30% off would Bring it down to $13.89, or 3 game servers for $20.83 so the price is about the same, but the performance is much better, because we do not use caps on our game servers

Our VPS are jails, they have no overhead caused by the kernel.

    Time for math!
8 players in left 4 dead 2 uses less than 1 mbit. lets assume .75mbit is 0.09375MB. .09375 * 60 * 60 *24 * 31 gives you 233280MB which is less than 250GB. That would be under 250GB per month of bandwidth required if you ran 8 players 24/7.

srcds_linux requires 175MB of ram while running, with 2 servers running this leaves you a few mb of overhead inside of your guaranteed ram, burst ram is almost always available as we do not oversell our servers.

You can indeed run 2 servers on our very lowest vps package. While I agree 2 versus servers would probably come close to exceeding the monthly bandwidth its rare for a server to stay 100% full and busy at all times. Our packages scale perfectly so that if you ever needed more we could increase your package on demand without any downtime.

    Edit:
Also wanted to note that the burst ram is free for any vps to use depending on what other vps are using on there actual ram quota. If the server is idle ram usage falls and allows your vps to use more outside its guaranteed quota. There is no "time limit" on how long the vps can use the ram, if its available its free to use.

Ok, for the 250GB a month you might be right

Now if you want to run your game server with minimum system requirements than yea 175MB of RAM per game server will work. Here is a chart of one of our game servers running 5 L4D2 game server some are VS and some are coop now 2046MB of RAM/5 = 409.2MB of RAM per game server and the server are not fully loaded. as it get latter in the day more and more users start playing than it will go up to something like 2,500MB of RAM/5 = 500MB of RAM per server. This chart does not take into effect the O.S. running. I don’t know, but I would say that you’re 384MB of RAM dose. meaning you get even less than 384MB of RAM

I understand your concerns, out servers are jails, the only thing running is logging and ssh. Virtually 0 overhead, performance is native to because the server runs on the host kernel, nothing is limited by virtualization.

Thanks for voicing your concerns. :waves:
