    I prefer melee weapons. Axe and Katana. <3
    But also when I'm bored I use the Desert Eagle.

    Melee. Nothing cleaves a horde better that a katana or a machete

    +1 agree there.

    on some instances where you have to run through wave after wave of infected (i.e. dead center mall alarm, parish alarm) i find it better to equip melee and charge straight forward, hacking anything down that comes close enough.

    a well-timed pipe or bile bomb will help in those circs too, but its melee then when you get where you need to go, primary weapons and annihilate everything.

    pistols dont help in that situation because you will very quickly run dry, and you would have most likely switched to the pistols because your pirmary weapon has run dry - leaving you with 2 weapons that need reloading.

    shotguns = sidearm
    sniper rifle = melee
    automatic weapon = whichever suits the situation more

    But a general rule of thumb, deagle > dual wielded handguns
