    Valve/Steam logo crash

    Hey team

Okay, so. Just got a brand new computer. One. Week. Old. I downloaded L4D2 last night and when I awoke this morning to play before class, the little shit would crash just as the Valve/Steam logo would end. So I ctrl+alt+del my way out and try again. Same result. I restart my comp. Same result. My Dell Inspiron laptop-- which is five years old-- can run this game, but my behemoth desktop can't run this shit? GFY, technology. GFY.

    Specs (Desktop):

    Dell Studio XPS 8100
    Intel Core i-7 2.8ghz
    4gb RAM
    nVidia GeForce GTX 260
    400gb of free space

Also, while I'm at it... It's taking forever and about a million clicks to bring the new steam client up. Dunno if this helps, but just throwin' it out there.

I apologize if this has already been answered. I have class momentarily and am in a rush.

Do a Verify Integrity via Steam and make sure that none of the files got corrupted during the download process.

    Iggy-

Thanks for the prompt response. I've checked the files via Steam and they are as they should be: "All files were verified successfully."

    Any ideas?

    Try doing this:

In Steam, right click L4D L> Properties > Set Launch Options > Type in -novid

It's a bit of a longshot, but it may work.
I'm an idiot and I can't follow directions. So now I'm also banned.

Have you done everything Iggy suggested, namely verifying local files?
Oh, and remove -novid now, the same way you added it.
