Angry When I open, All I see is black

When I open, all I see is black. I can hear the game but the sound is a bit glitchy at the beginning. After the trailer is done playing at the beginning, I can move the mouse and hear it going over buttons because it makes a sound. I just can't see! Please help!

By the way, I can play World of Warcraft just fine.
And When I pull up L4D2, I can Tab to see the "Steam settings and friends list" just fine over the black screen

Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 are extreme resource hogs, and typically do not run very well, if at all, on laptop or notebook computers. First I would go to the Can You Run It site, just click on the link in my sig file. See what the results are.

You can try deleting the VIDEO.TXT file that is in the CFG folder and let it recreate itself and see if it helps or not. If you can get into the game, then you will need to turn all your video settings down to the minimums and try the game and see how it runs.

Okay, now I have a new problem in addition to that.
    This one is different though.
"Fatal Error: Failed to Load Platform Modules" when I start up steam.

Could my problem (not the steam one) be my processor?

Yea, since L4D calls for a 3 ghz CPU, and you have a 1.6. What did Can You Run it say?
