My Left 4 Dead is slow

On some levels it is very slow, and on others it is not. I would like to enjoy all the levels at regular speed though. I've searched the internet and can't find anything. Runway, and rooftop is slowest for me, along with apartments, sewers, and just about every other map. Can someone please tell me how I fix this?

    My system:
    Dell
    Model: Studio 540S
    Proccesor:Intell(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9400 @ 2.66GHz 2.67 GHz
    Memory (RAM) 8.00 GB
    64 bit operation system
    Its Vista

Well, you kind of need to define what "slow" is...is it lagging or chugging? If so, you need to determine if it is being caused by a connection issue, or if it is graphics related.

First off, try lowering your graphics settings to the minimums and see if that makes a difference.

What do you mean by chugging? It moves slowly, say Im running, and moving my crosshair to shoot zombies, it slowly moves to the zombies in a choppy motion. Not choppy like move couple second pause, its more like a move then slow then move then slow again.

Also, how do I check what video card I have? Im fairly certain that its not connection problems, because it lags on single player too. And what settings should I lower? I dont know which ones to lower

Ok, I lowered some setting in advanced options down to low, and went on the map that lags the most, and not lag.

    Thank you so much Iggy.
