I only ever play versus with friends now - to me it's the way forward. The L4D versus community (particularly on Xbox) is just full of so much shit that I can't abide not playing with friends anymore.
Most of the time when playing with (or against) pubs, you either run into people who are pretty new to the game, and so don't present much of a challenge, or seasoned veterans who; lose and all quit at the same time, ending your game, OR, pull a win and then start arsing around, suiciding or using glitches. The bottom line being, it's hard to find any good quality games these days if you're not playing with at least a few friends.[s]L4D - PC & Xbox 360[/s]

Yes it was! Overcomplicating is what I do best.
L4D2's Xbox Versus pub community is a little better than it is on L4D1, but yeah I don't play L4D1 Versus that much and whenever I do, boy do I rage lol. I agree with you 100%, either they really suck or are "too good" to win so they screw around. I should play L4D1 Versus more often.

The scavenge community in L4D2 is the only competitive L4D Xbox community that I think is even vaguely friendly. I can tolerate scavenge with randoms, usually because people aren't fixated on win win win like versus.

True true, even the more serious players after dealing out an ass-whooping will say 'good game' before leaving a lobby, and I don't hear/see much trash talk or griefing at all. One of my friends got told to 'stick that shotgun up ya ass' the other day, lol, but that's about it.
You meet some damn good teams/players too, but mostly if you hang around Rooftop lobbys or games long enough...
(There's a few reasons why I play scavenge over versus, but that's for another thread...)
