    Unhappy Invalid CD Key?

So I bought L4D2 at a meijer in Ohio for $20 because I've wanted the game for a while but couldn't buy it off of Steam because of my terrible internet connection. I get home, all excited, pop the CD in and try to install it.

And it says my CD key is invalid...

I'm staring at it right now and I'm 100% positive I typed it in correctly and I even had my sister double-check...

Has this happened to anyone else and if so, did they get it fixed?

I've already tried contacting Steam Support but I'm getting impatient waiting for a response... I really really just want to play this game.

you'll either have to go back to the store and get it exchanged for another copy, or contact steam about the issue.

and of course move somewhere where there's fast internet.

And the really bad news is that even if you get the CD key working, you're still going to have to download at least a gigabyte's worth of updates etc.
The best bet might be to call in a favour from a friend with a decent internet connection and take your computer over there to get it downloaded. Either that or be prepared to play the waiting game.

I think I'll probably go back and try to exchange for a new copy, at least then I can be doing something...

Nope, exchanged copy doesn't work either. Guess I'll just have to wait it out with Steam Support.

    Damnit... :zombie20:

Steam support are pretty good with these situations. As long as you have the reference card with the CD key they should get it sorted for you.

Unfortunately Valve aren't renowned for fast customer support so you might wait a day or two.

Yeah I'm not worried that it won't get fixed I just have the attention span of a goldfish and am not the best at waiting... And I have nothing else to play tonight because I'm staying over at my grandparents and all the rest of my games are at home.

But thanks for the help and advice everyone, I'll post when everything's sorted out...

If it was a sealed copy of L4D2, contact Steam support.
If it was a pre-owned copy, there is nothing you can do. Valve do not transfer CD keys between accounts.

    Sorry 'bout that.
Seeing as there is absolutely nothing we can do for you about this (it's an account issue which only Valve can fix), I'll mark it as solved.
I'm an idiot and I can't follow directions. So now I'm also banned.
