[PC] L4D Hamachi server timed out
Hi all,
I have tried the whole day making a hamachi server to plat L4D 1 with my bro in the same house. Finally I fixed the connections, however after my brother connects, he times out after 5 sec. Does anyone have the solution for this problem? I searched the web but didnt find one really good answer.
Please be very detailed, Im not very technical with the whole PC like forward ports and such
Thanks!

Hi there.
Rather then setting up a Hamachi server you might just want to consider setting up a friends-only game on L4D. Simply set up a Lobby, select "Friends only" and you will both be put in a game where only friends of the host can join up. you could even make it a "Private" lobby, and you'd just have to invite them to the game, if you are using Steam(Don't know if you have to use steam to run it on a PC?) Just invite him VIA friends list.
But, If you'd like to use Hamachi, Both of you will have to turn down your firewalls. The firewall is NOT safe to keep off, so once you are done playing turn it up right away.
If you are using Windows 7 all you have to do is..
Hit start -> Control Panel -> System and Security -> Windows Firewall -> Turn Windows Firewall on or off -> turn both firewalls off and you are good to go.
Sometimes anti-viruses WILL interfere with Hamachi. if turning off your firewall doesn't work (make sure your brother does to) I would suggest trying "Comodo Unite" it is essentially the same as Hamachi, but I have found it to be a lot more stable and overall a better program. you will still have to turn off your firewall.
Letting these two programs "Through your firewall" doesn't fix the issue of connection for most people.Do or do not, there is no try.

Oke, disabling the firewall worked, but now I have a new problem.
Instead of timing out, my brother has every 15 sec. that his computer must connect back to my hamachi server. So he is pretty laggy.
Any solutions for this?
PS: No, we both have L4D without steam

erm... hamachi is a private vpn tool. I'm not sure where l4d comes in with that.

Ok... In looking into this a bit the ONLY posts I can find reference running hamachi to defeat steam checks when running pirated versions of the game. However since I can't verify it's the ONLY reason to run hamachi with L4D, I'm not going to ban outright.
SO... I'm locking this one up. And noXious, if you have a valid reason for running hamachi with a legitimate game and steam client, you can PM me and explain it to me. Otherwise...........
