What is the current state of the game?

Does anyone know what is currently going on with the game DLC wise? It's been so long since they've released an official campaign (2010). I know Valve offered up a variety of mutations, but I didn't find any of them to hold my interest for very long. "Cold Stream" was developed by somebody else, so I reckon they just had to polish/tweak it up a bit. They still do their usual patch maintenance and I know awhile back they had yet to port "Cold Stream" and the orginal maps over to the 360, so I guess they are still working on that. I just figured that after "Portal 2" was released, Valve would bring something back to the table. I'm not complaining and I count my blessings for all of the hard work put forth so far. But it would be nice to have an annoucement of sorts to help us realize that they haven't given up on the game yet.

I believe they said something in the blog post about still changing the maps. However much longer that takes, no one knows.

We are all hoping they will get this done before the game completely dies. There's really no predicting when anything will happen.

Considering valve has several games there working on constantly and they've been trying very hard to port over all of the old L4D maps(expect an announcement any day now, they are probably going to shut down the L4D1 servers.) I'd say your not in a position to complain. Making a game, even if it's just a 1 hour map, takes time.
I'm going to be really honest here, and if your a rabid fan you may not want to read this.
Things like this test games, and it shows people if there worth a company's time or not. I wouldn't be surprised if valve just eventually says goodbye to the franchise and leaves it, seeing as the population playing is declining. If you go and play certain CoD games, people are still playing it hard core(for whatever reason I will NEVER understand) and halo 2, when they said "k guys were shutting her down" fans were raging hard core globally. I couldn't see that much rage out of a l4d fanbase at all. I could see it from a underground society, but I couldn't see it explode into something else entirely. Just my opinion.

If you read Valve's offical L4D blog, Cold Stream still has no confirmed released date at the time of writing this.
