A neat game - but total crap out for me
ARMA realistic combat simulator , ok sounded good , installed it. updated to newest version . CTD - ARMA has experienced an unknown difficulty and needs to close -please inform MICROSOFT of the problem by completing an error report. This message pops in whenever Im remotely close to ending certain training missions.
The sound is set to no hardware accelleration , I've downloaded drivers , uninstalled 3 x s , defragged , and im out of ideas to keep this bitch running without restarting . In my entire gamer PC experience I have never seen a more bug filled game , even some of the betas ive tested were more stable than this game. :2

Re: A neat game - but total crap out for me
VISTA , not yet, SP1 doesn't arrive until q1 2008 , so i will keep waiting , but i have the upgrade ready once it does. I ttried another misison today , the game began looking like a abstract art painting , then i reset my refresh rate to lowest - 60 , and that cleared it to normal. The game eventually crashed anyways. So thats not the problem ....

Arma is a system hog
On CPU and RAM you're good, on vid card Arma is going to be less than happy. Arma is also famous for overheating systems. If your vid card is overclocked, or has a HSF (heatsink fan) that can't keep up, it may be overheating, and that would drop you to desktop (but first you would usually see some weird graphic glitches from the overheating).
To test, you could drop all your video settings to bare minimum in game (draw distance, no shadows, etc.) and see if things play a bit longer. The main killer for video settings is shadows (and on your card you probably should have them totally turned off).

Build an $800 Gaming PC
ThinSkin writes "Building a computer that can handle today's games doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg. In fact, you can build one for less than $800, especially given that many hardware manufacturers have cut costs considerably. Loyd Case over at ExtremeTech shows gamers how to build an $800 gaming PC, one that features an overclockable Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 and a graphics-crunching EVGA 260 GTX Core 216. The computer exceeded expectations in gaming and synthetic tests, and was even overclocked well over spec at 3.01GHz."
