Hi,

I know that the past 24 hours have been a little odd for those of you who follow the forums closely. Those of you who do will have noticed several major changes in the staffing of the forum in a short space of time, and it's not unusual for people to start guessing when stuff like that happens, especially as answers weren't immediately forthcoming.
I've read (and heard second-hand) quite a few theories on exactly what people think has been happening, and whilst some were close but had several key points wrong, others were borderline crackpot. The nature of this post (or part of it, anyway) is to put those theories to bed.

So what happened?
Basically, as of yesterday MyNameDidntFit resigned as Administrator of Left4DeadForums. I was asked by him to 'steer the ship' for 24 hours until he could contact 711 to organise a replacement.

Why you?
I've got experience with both L4DF and forum administration, plus I've worked with most of the existing staff and many of the existing members before.

Why couldn't 711 simply take over administrative duties?
711 is a busy guy.

He owns and runs many other sites and forums, some of which are considerably larger than L4DF - his preferred approach is to take a more 'hands off' approach and intervene only when required. It's a tactic many people use when running multiple forums.

What about Betty? Why was Betty banned?
Betty's ban was short-term and self-requested. She'll be back.

So are you the new Admin?
Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: I discussed things with 711 last night and I will be taking over from MNDF as 'front-line' admin for the forseeable future. 711 still owns the forum, nothing's changed there, but I'll be wearing the red pants from now on.

But you haven't been here for nearly a year!
Believe me, I'm just as aware of this as you are. However, I've got experience with L4DF, I know the workings of vBulletin, and I'm comfortable taking it on. I'm planning on easing my way back into things and seeing how the land lies before making any changes - that's if anything needs changing - I'm not going to make changes for the sake of it.

Hopefully that answers most of your questions. If you've got any others, please feel free to ask them. Just be aware that I won't be discussing why MNDF resigned or why Betty requested her ban - if they want to discuss it, they'll do so - it's not my place to do it for them.

Hehe, now everyone else round here would have you believe yours truly is a ban-hungry maniac. Didn't even give you an official warning there.

But seriously, with any luck I won't be getting too involved in the dishing out of infractions - I'm happy to leave that particular chore to the moderating team.
