Thread: Left 4 Dead Tweaks (Sticky)

alright guys n gals,

We all have our own tweaks on games that are legit, so post em up here.

First of all, game startup, valve intro and movie intros as well as the moving background in menus eats a TON of memory. If any of you play BF2 you all know what im talking about as well.

It's damn near the exact same as BF2.

go to "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead\media" and rename the three .blk to .blak or something, add any character. This will disable the load movies and background video, increasing startup time and freeing a ton of memory.


Please add anything useful of the sort...im still working on deleting the background sound on the main menu as its just an annoyance in my opinion.

Enabling Developer Console and Connecting Directly to TTP Server #4 from the Console (taken from here).

Enabling Developer Console

Simply load up Left 4 Dead, click on "Options", then on "Keyboard/Mouse".



In the next screen, toggle "Allow Developer Console" to Enabled.



To open the console, press the key directly to the left of the number '1' key on the top row of your keyboard. Default keystroke for this on european keyboards is " ` ".

1) Make a lobby
2) Get people to join the lobby
3) The lobby leader must type "sv_search_key ttpers" into their console
4) Start the lobby
