    Finale Scoring

    I just wanted to hear others' opinions on scoring in the finale. Heres the scenario from last nite:

    Dead Air. Our teams were close for the first two maps and then we got spanked in the third part (on both sides). Fourth part we edged out by speed running (surprisingly worked quite well knowing that you wont encounter a tank). Now we get to the finale that everyone has trouble on. The opponents are up first to try and survive. We end it by the first tank....... 200 points.

    Now we're up. We actually find a great spot and beat both tanks with 3 green and 1 yellow health and 2 extra med packs. We run to the plane as the door is opening. 3 of us get on and one gets snagged by a smoker. Tank comes in the airplane, blocks us from getting our snared friend and incaps 2 of us until finally the person snagged by the smoker is incapped. Plane takes off and we technically only have one survivor survive..... 214 points.

    So all that extra work and we only got 14 more points than a team that didnt get past the first tank. All bitter feelings of 'director unfairness' aside (*cough* Swift *cough*), I feel that scoring in the finale should be measured in milestones rather than 'distance traveled'. So you get more points the farther you get:

    1. Alerting the radio
    2. Starting the finale
    3. Kill Tank 1
    4. Kill Tank 2
    5. Board vehicle (this being the highest jump in points than any other milestone)

    Given we were going to lose anyways, I was a little disheartened to see that finale score in the end. In a game like that, its more of a personal victory for me to see our team take them out in the finale and have us get all the way through.

    Oh and I found this online. Is that true that pills actually help your score now?

    Without Survivors:
    AverageDistance * MapMultiplier

    Map multipliers are as follows for the different segments:
    1. 1.0
    2. 1.3
    3. 1.4
    4. 1.5
    5. 2.0

    With Survivors:
    (AverageDistance + HealthBonus) * NumberOfSurvivors * MapMultiplier

    Health Bonus:
    Sum of each Survivors' Individual Health Bonus

    Individual Health Bonus:
    RoundDown(RealHealth/2) + Round(TemporaryHealth/4) First Aid Kits and Pain Pills are automatically included in their owner's Individual Health Bonus.

    I have always thought the finale scoring was a bit craptastic... And I also think the people on the plane, boat, apc, chopper, zeppelin, spree scooter... whatever... should be able to hit a switch and have it take off, leaving someone behind. The "tank on board" scenario has killed me more times than I care to think about and it's bullshit. If someone is off the vehicle, then it don't matter how many are on, it won't leave. And at that point all that needs to happen is for the other team to leave the guy alone or keep him from getting on and the tank can run wild in the vehicle.

    One thing though that I don't think I've seen people try... though I've heard it mentioned... is not trying to hop on the rescue vehicle immediately, and fight that last tank. THEN get on.

    Regardless, I too think it should have "milestones". A team surviving both tanks should get far more points than one that gets killed right out of the safe room door for instance.

    Meh, the best thing to do on our server to prevent crap like this happening is simple - care less about winning and more about winning the right way - meaning don't go on the escape vehicle with the tank.

    Meh, if Valve is still coming out with patches for this, they need to make the boat and plane un-enterable ASAP.

    I think they should just make them faster... Boat... Not plane, getting a tank into the plane is actually a feat I've never seen it.

    I've seen the boat... Every game.
    I've seen the heli... a few times.
    I've NEVER seen the APC...
    I've seen the plane... once.

    APC... That one happens every time if the survivors are on the wrong side of the house when it arrives.
    Heli... I've seen EVERY special infected sitting in the chopper at the end of that round before.
    Boat... Don't even get me started on that one. For the longest time I thought it was IMPOSSIBLE to win that round. Since then I've even seen all four make it.
    Plane... Seen the tank on the plane more than once.

    It should be just like the safe rooms. If the survivors can get there and close the door, then the infected can't get in.

    Definitely like to see a patch address it. But it don't spoil the enjoyment of the game too much either way.

    You can get into the vehicle on any finale if all able-bodied survivors dont get on the vehicle within 3 seconds of it being available to board.

    This is a few days old, but I completely agree with changing the scoring. I've seen several teams just run up and slap the radio knowing they won't be able to finish the finale by any chance just to get the +200 points.

    In the finale here's the order of the events

    1. Get to finale location
    2. Hit radio
    3. Confirm radio
    4. Wave 1 Half 1
    5. Wave 1 Half 2
    6. Tank 1
    7. Wave 2 Half 1
    8. Wave 2 Half 2
    9. Tank 2
    10. Get to rescue vehicle (Last-minute tank and horde rush)

    It's also worth mentioning that if the 2nd tank isn't finished by a certain time limit, the rescue vehicle will arrive anyways but without the coming of the common infected horde.

    I think that instead of awarding progress for individual events, the scoring should keep with the approach for all the other levels and provide a distance over the entire finale, that way people are encouraged to get as far as they can without dying. I would imagine there would be jumps for when the tanks were killed, and I think that if the rescue vehicle shows up 100% distance should be awarded. Also, if anyone dies, their distance stops and counts against the average (of course.)

    Of course, I also think they should fix how and where the last-minute tank spawns because as far as I can tell it's largely luck. I've seen a tank spawn deep in the forest on the boat rescue from Blood Harvest, but also right behind the rocks in the water where he had prime attack on knocking people off the pier. I digress though, that's a different discussion for a different time.
