map glitches?

Playing Evo Marines 0.8 last night, map was all glitched to hell.

Even under Veteran, I thought the map was supposed to show red dots for hostiles; since spotting is fully automagic (not BF2/PR style explicit), you'd figure that at a minimum shit like static emplacements and vehicles should still show up on the map instead of forcing everyone to guess where to mark it manually. It was the first time I've played Evo where my map was completely useless for anything tactical...

More evidence of map glitch was teammate icons also glitched badly toward the end (like after Blakeman left, his icon was still there, and even his avatar was still spawned at the HQ); half the time my icon failed to move with me, and so did my teammates'...

With veteran the enemy markers don't show up to my knowledge, only on regular and cadet do they show up.

As far as the markers for friendlies, that is probably a mission glitch and evolution is still supposed to be a 'beta' mission according to the author.

so the only way to issue commands to squaddies in veteran mode is to use menus? (like 2, for attack that hostile)?

Yup or direct action by pointing your crosshair at it and giving a command. You can also set your guys on alert and change their stance to stay low and they tend to do better.
