I had the same problem with the first l4d. Nothing helped. At all.

Until I switched to ATI cards. Never happened again.

I literally tried everything with L4D1 including two reinstalls of the operating system and redownloading the game. I tried 3 different versions of the nvidia drivers... The only thing I didn't do was eliminate SLI from the picture (I had two 8800GTX). But it sounds like from yours and Kraker's setups that doing so wouldn't have helped any.

Every person I've heard of with the problem has been people with nvidia cards too. I'm not an ati fanboy... I love nvidia. I have had far more nvidia cards that ati/matrox/3dfx/etc cards. But in this case, I think the problem is nvidia drivers.

So are you in a position to borrow a card from a friend?

It's not the graphics card.


I have done everything I can think of. Reinstalled Framework, Reinstalled Visual C++ 05 and 08. Reinstalled the game completely, adjusted video settings, updated drivers... Still getting the error....Consider this my resignation from l4d2 until they release a fix

I just noticed that I dont have SP1 or SP2 installed for vista, doing that now.


Also have tried shutting down steam cloud, ctrl alt del application and changing anailizing CPU to only 1...still nothing.

Have you tried a different OS? Instead of just reinstalling Vista?
