I like the magnum the best. As to the sniper rifle (the automatic one), oddly the one time i played realism it seemed to have lost quite a bit of its power

    Re: Melee or Pistols?

double pistols if CERTAIN melee weapons aren't available. All melee are not made equal. The axe... guitar... tend to let me get hit. Slow swing... bad arc...

But give me a machette, katana, or even a crowbar and I'll be happy.

Krakkens and shit. stop tempting them.

Not so sure if this is a reliable source, but it doesn't really seem like the kind of thing someone would BS a couple of paragraphs for.

    Regardless, here's the source.

    Re: Melee or Pistols?

All melee weapons one-hit any CI and UCI. All melee weapons do a flat 5% damage to Tanks (previously 10%), and I believe they do a flat 250 to Witches (Witches have 1000 HP, so it takes four hits to kill a Witch, not that whacking her with a golf club would be intelligent in the first place.) The exception here is the Chainsaw, which does 100 damage per hit and hits every 0.10 seconds, for 1000 damage per second. Worth noting that a weeping Witch will turn around and gut you in less than a second, but a second is generally enough time to saw down a wandering Witch.

Most melee weapons swing in a flat horizontal arc; I know the tonfa swings in a diagonal arc, and I believe there was one other that behaved this way (might have been the cricket bat.) I personally prefer the guitar for its impact sounds

As a side note, I've been finding that melee weapons are horribly underrated for Expert - being able to clear entire hordes by yourself (back into a corner, swing and punch while sweeping view from side to side rapidly) without taking damage is huge, especially since the likelihood of friendly fire is nil (and it's only about 5 damage if you DO hit someone) and you don't have to reload a melee weapon. People talking about taking more damage while using a melee weapon generally aren't punching between swings - yes, punching them does tend to knock them out of range, but that's not an issue when they'll either just come right back to you or your teammates can pop them while they're down. I tend to take less damage using a melee weapon than I do using a pistol of any kind. I also tend to carry a shotgun to crown poorly placed Witches with, and yet it never seems to cause me any problems.

    Imagine that! :P

    Re: Melee or Pistols?

It's situational. If I'm in a position where I know I'll get knocked down, or I know I'll have distance(and teh distance has to be vast), I'd choose the Magnum. Other than that Melees work just fine, just gotta use them smart. Don't run out to kill them, let them come to you. Running out will only get you surrounded, or more likely shot by a team mate.

    Re: Melee or Pistols?

for me it depends on the situation. Melee can be extremely valuable in closed quarters, or places which naturally form the flow of the zombies into streams. (ex finale of parish)

    Re: Melee or Pistols?

For me it is situational as well. Different tools for different situations. However, I feel that no team, especially in VS, should have all of one type of thing.. same as with the primary weapons. With primary weapons, if everyone on your team has shotguns, that's bad, same if everyone has assault-type weapons.. and a team of all sniper weapons is about the dumbest thing ever. Similarly, you probably don't want to pair yourself with a shotgun and a melee weapon, as both are short range, and while good for chargers (and tanks), they're not so good if someone gets pulled away by a Jockey, Smoker, or a long distance Charge.

For me, in VS, I'm pretty much an assault+melee guy.. assault for the distance, and melee for when you just gotta kill every motherfucker in the room (cuz rooms are small in this game). However in coop.. Desert Eagle all the way.. that can probably be one of the most valuable weapons in the game in coop.. especially when you get incapped, because you can still clear the zombies off of you fast enough to keep you from going full dead before getting rescued, and to give your teammates reliable cover.

I never use dualies. For whatever reason, I cannot use them to any effect what-so-ever.. they're just different enough from the dualies in L4D1, that I can't seem to get a handle on them to make them useful for me. Whether they're weaker, or whatever, I don't know.. I just can't use em. So I'll likely roll with a melee weapon until I can get my hands on a deagle in coop.
