I usually assign all of my queens to 4, which is the hotkey I use for my orbital commands and nexuses. Press 4, then Z for spawn larva, then click on the hatchery on the minimap and the nearest queen will waddle over and inject it. Never have to leave the front lines.

First of all, pick a hotkey setup that is most comfortable to you. Nothing else matters.

Now, the WHAT to hotkey part. My personal preference is 4 are Hatches, 5 are queens. I can press 4,s, then spam w/e units I need during battle. I press 5 and spawn larva my using my minimap to look at hatches and just have the group of queens select a hatch (the closest queen will do the job and nobody else).

I'm used to this, but I wish I wasn't. I wish I could get used to 5 being hatches and 6 being queens, so I could have another group of units. I run out too quickly with only 1-3.
