Finally figured out my L4D2 crashes...
Threw up HWMonitor and furmark's stability test... Within 2 minutes, GPU temp is > 100c
Shortly after that, total lockup. I got a damn GPU overheating.
It was all the classic symptoms of that, but I figured it couldn't be. They are brand new (well... xmas new anyway.)
So now I decide whether to rip them apart and re-silver them and check the fans and such, or just send them in for RMA. Grrrrr.

460 GTX ganked out of my system. The remaining one never got above 73c on furmark. I'll tear this sucker down and reseat the heat sink tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be back to full steam by tomorrow night.

Grrr... arctic silver deployed... reseated heat sink... still overheating IMMEDIATELY upon any kind of load... Reasonably sure it's a fuxed up thermistor. It couldn't get that hot that quick with the heatsink and as5 on there as well as I put it on there.

I ran into that problem for awhile with my laptop (well bit different, since its a laptop thus airflow already sucks), ended up wrapping a icepack in a couple hand towels and sticking it under the gpu, seemed to work (Except the one time I got a BSOD from what I could only tell was the thing running too cold). Granted that won't work for a desktop
