Re: new to l4d series
well first off, join the l4d2 meetup group to find out when the games are starting. And slowly accumulate friends to join on later...
A few quick tips:
Survivor:
1. Stick to your team, less than 20 ft away.... always in sight if possible
2. Use your mic, if you see/hear something call it, if something is happening to you call it.
3. Learn the maps!
Infected:
1. Learn the maps!!!
2. Hit together.
3. Play the down people / events / tanks / witches.
Those were ranked roughly in order of importance.
But basically have fun! L4D2 is a team game, no one person is going to carry a team...

No one person is going to carry a team, but one person can destroy it
Welcome to the club Volcan. Best survivor tips I can give you is to stick close to your team, maybe just pick one person on your team (preferably whoever is most skilled) and follow them around. Also, while you're still learning maps and stuff, definately don't shop for items. Also, don't worry about the horde too much. It's far more important to keep an eye out for the special infected. The common infected should just be something you deal with in-between checks for special infected. Most importantly, make sure that you get the special infected off your team quickly. Learn to prioritize which to get off first. Highest priority goes to hunters (always take the extra second to shot them to death, don't shove them off someone), followed by chargers. The others are about equal, with slightly higher priority going to taking out jockeys since they can force a teammate into a very inconvenient spot.
For playing Special Infected (SI), the best tip I can give you for early on is to listen to your teams playcaller if you have one, and make sure to hit together. 1 SI charging in at a time usually isn't going to do much, especially early on when you don't know the choke points, death charges, or most of the good tactics. Just keep to the basics till you learn what you're doing, and try and hit at the same time as your teammates.
Also, there are great instruction-type threads on here I believe. A few of them are even well-written as well as informative lol.
