Re: Question about teamplay
I play here because I like teamplay when people who know better are not teamplayers I get pissed. I can usually handle that especially if the person says they shouldn't have done that, but when they tell me I am wrong for questioning what they did and they were right doing their none teamplay thing I get utterly pissed. At that point you don't want me playing as I am pissed off and no longer care about the game and I don't like making decisions or saying things when I am angry.
I'll stick through a game even with people who have terrible skills as long as they are trying to play as a team, because that doesn't make me angry. Honestly I play here at TPG for the teamplay, I don't care about wining if my team isn't a team. I'd much rather be on the losing team who is working together.
As to our voice coms we said the tank was down and I was asking where our missing person was. And the response was in the safe room.
I also didn't use names because I didn't think it should be made personal, Morning.Last edited by Saltspring; 07-05-11 at 12:55 AM.

Re: Question about teamplay
Salt, if I left games just because a single person on my team wasn't being a teamplayer, I wouldn't have played any games the last two days. Instead, I played seven. It happens, and all you can do is keep going.
Not hitting with the rest of the team, running off to places they shouldn't be going to, not calling out getting hit, these things all annoy the living daylights out of me, but I finish the game. I may be so pissed that I'm redfaced from screaming at my monitor (without turning my mic on), but I finish the game.
Though the name of the community is TeamPlayerGaming, I've run across quite a few people in L4D2 who just are not team players. It happens, but ragequitting from the game is on the same level as running off and leaving your team behind, if not worse, because running off is something that can be corrected.

This seems kinda pointless in my opinion. Im saying is nothing is going to get accomplished here other than arguing. It seemed rather personal from the get go even if you didn't mention that persons name. Ether way I think this thread should be locked because no good other than arguing will come of it. Now if this is just a scenario situation than yeah it's fine and I have completely mis read this because it's late and I don't have my contacts on. Two cents take it or leave it.

Re: Question about teamplay
Yeeeeah... don't leave a game out of rage. Don't run off if your team stays to fight.
If you got mad at someone, handle it through a PM. Something that is kind of hard to do (I myself used to make threads so everyone could yell at the person..) but is much more efficient and keeps us all strong. Talk to him, get your views out there, bicker it out with him, finish it up, put it in the past. Hopefully he will learn his lesson, and if not, well the admins will punish him.

Re: Question about teamplay
I have only left 2 L4D games intentionally, both because of people on my team ran ahead ignoring their team when there was absolutely no reason for it, then chewing me out because I called them on it, which I personally find takes me to the level of anger that is unacceptable.

Re: Question about teamplay
Full disclosure of said events if anyone cares to know. We had a tank in the sewers on "no mercy" he was right before the "ladder" that brings you to top level where hospital entry is IE the safe room. We were all in good health and had shotguns for the tank. At some point during the tank fight I hear over Voip "I'm running it" that was the person who went all way to safe room. We killed the tank maybe 20-30 seconds after that. In the chaos I don't think my other two teammates even heard him say it. In any case they ask where he is about the time were trying to get up the ladder. We still had a decent amount health even after the tank. I went 1st to try clear some spawns, but a hunter went down the manhole and got someone, and before we knew it we were three capped.
Salt said something along the lines of I'm pissed at you "so and so" for leaving us behind. That person got angry and chewed out salt saying it was an extra 25 points, and that he made a judgement call. Right before the next round salt drops from the game. The one who ran felt that location was bad for fighting a tank, and at one point he was cornered so that was his rational for running. In my opinion he made a bad decision, and I told him that. That area was perfect for killing a tank because you can pump him full of lead as hes coming towards you, and he has no way avoid taking major damage. He agreed, and really the only reason this got out hand was how you approached the subject Salt. He felt personally attacked and struck back.

The ladder is a death trap. If I could have snuck a player up it to make safe room, I think I might have taken the gamble. In a game that awards points for distance, it can be a difficult call on how to push and gain points.
In sewer the tank being on fire is not relevant, he can put himself out in water. It sounds like yall were split. If it comes down to being cornered by a tank and going for distance, I would get out of the corner.
There have been lots of times where I was not fond of the team splitting to run for distance. But there are 4 angles looking at the scene. Hind sight is 20-20 we don't always choose the right play in the heat of the moment.

Re: Question about teamplay
Someone who makes a split decision and doesn't turn out to be correct shouldn't be labeled a non team player.

For this situation, after Tenru explained what happened, yes whoever ran for it had to make a quick decision and should not be looked at as a non-teamplayer. But I would suggest that you always try to communicate with your team before you go running for the safe room. I know it can be hard to hear what everyone is saying when a situation like this arises, but at least try to let your team know. If I don't know if I should be staying with my team or running for points I always shout out, "Should I be running?" May seem stupid, but at least I get a confirmation or denial to run for it.
