    Re: Quitting on TPG Games???

Just when the drama was over...

Euro is not ragequitting. It is an agreement between the 8 people playing to end a game when the time would otherwise be wasted; let's be honest, we've all had games (winning or losing) where we just think to ourselves "OK, let's get this over with... the point difference is literally impossible to even."

However, that being said, it is still an agreement. I asked at least twice if it was OK to euro the finale, and nobody voiced objections after about thirty seconds of waiting for an answer; in fact, at least two or three people agreed with it. If even one person had voiced an objection, then I would have stayed and would have been happy to play the finale if at least one person was getting joy out of it.

Ragequitting is a form of anger, wherein a player leaves without notice because they are simply too angry to deal with the game at hand. Euro is ending a game early with the consent of 8 people who can realistically admit that the finale would be, frankly, a waste of time. If nobody really wants to play the finale when the game is already over point-wise, why do it?

Honestly, this is ridiculous. It's nothing short of monotony, requiring everyone to waste their time for no reason (like I said, unless someone objected, which would be plenty of a good reason to stay). If you watch a movie with your friends, would you require them to sit through the credits?

I wasn't going to name names because I wasn't intending on making this a personal issue, and as admins got involved after the two of you chimed in, let me explain what I saw on MY end that led me to post here.

Backstory is short: I'm never on the forums - not a post in over 5 months - but I'm in the top 60 on overall game time on TPG's L4D2 servers, so it's not exactly like I'm new to TPG. Out of the 150ish games I've played on TPG servers, not ONCE have I seen a game not reach the conclusion - except this one. Yeah, it may not be a rule, or part of the mission statement, but it's an understood reality that we finish games, because we owe the winning team the decency of a victory.

Which brings me to why I posted on the forums. The ONLY reason I play on TPG (as I suspect many of us do) is because, quite frankly, public Vs games never finish, and you simply can't FIND a public rVs game.

    Most importantly, this:

I wanted to make it clear that if bailing on the last map was going to become the "norm", I wanted no part in it.

I spent 4 months away from L4D2/TPG after I got bored with L4D2. I sure as hell didn't lose any sleep over it. Kanati tells me at work a couple of weeks ago there's new maps out, so I start playing again. Evidently things changed and a new term / game ending was invented while I was away. If this is the way things are going to be, (and this goes for anyone and everyone), then go read my first post over again, I worded it very clearly.

But, one game failing to finish isn't what drug my ass out of hibernation to post on the forums. What REALLY set me off and sent me to the forums is we had a TPG first-timer in the game with us. One player only had 6.1 hours TOTAL in L4D2. Since there was a mix of RvS veterans and newish players who needed watching over, before the game started, in the lobby I posted "since there's new people let's not make this ultra-intense, let's work on coaching them". You then called teams, and you even went so far as to pass up picking a vet to take the brand-new player who'd never even played Vs. before on to your team. I thought that was very cool of you.

Things started out great, but didn't end that way. For the first exposure to TPG to be only slightly better than a pub game, because the game actually made it most of the way through, instead of just 2, or 3 maps, just doesn't sit well with me.

Even 1500 points down, I'll keep shooting until the cross goes over my name, just to give that last person standing one extra step. It is just a game, so I don't get stressed out by losing - I learn from it. Sometimes I get irritated by people who rush or run off on their own, or when a full team lets a smoker take me from max health to a rotting corpse without bothering to come help, but I don't get hostile about it - I just say "let's stick closer together", or "let's cover each other better from SI", or "let's hit together".

But I don't flip out or give up when I'm losing, because, it's just a friggin' game. I play for the personal satisfaction of trying to make every hit count, or being the first guy to clear through a horde to help a capped player, or (like tonight's game with max, kanati, ira, krom, etc) that very, very rare hero moment when we're a player down, I'm the only guy standing, and I take a shot to get two downed players up and we make it in to the safe room together. We lost that game but it was the best game I'd played since coming back, because I did something I really didn't think I could do.

Another game I was in last week, my team was down 1300 points going in to the finale of Blood Harvest. By some miracle, two of our team got on the goddamned APC (I died a few feet from it), and even though we lost the game, it was an absolutely awesome feeling.

So, no, I really don't care if I win or lose, either way I'll fight it out to the bitter end. I *do* care about finishing, for better or worse.

With all of this in mind (what I wrote above), when the game ended early without any explanation (at least that *I* understood), yeah, it's very disappointing.

Since this has happened, you and I HAVE talked things through, and we HAVE reached an understanding about things. I've been "Educated about Euros.", you apologized about the misunderstanding, and I accept that apology completely.

If everyone didn't know it before, they sure as hell know it now - everyone knows I like to finish games, whether winning or losing, meaning... people know to not to invite me (Trent/DeathFromAbove) if they don't plan on finishing a game. My ass don't leave the seat in the theater until the music rolls with the credits, to use your example above.

If people don't like my attitude about this, just don't invite me. Again, I hold no ill will towards you - had there been another 20 seconds of dialog so I could have understood better what the hell was going on before people dropped, yeah, things would have turned out differently. They are what they are, and I would hope that the powers that be understand that this shouldn't be a "major event" on their radar; it was simply one team not wanting to continue playing the game, and me not understanding a word coming out of their mouth.

You say Euro, and all that goes through my head is my goddamn stock portfolio and how I can't rub two pennies together off of what I've invested in their markets. Same thing would have happened if you said Yen.

    It's that simple.

I'm not angry with you (well, yeah I was, but not anymore since we've talked together privately).

For those of you skipping to the end of this wall of text:

    I don't - won't - and never will - want to play PART of a game.

Now that's a teamplayer right there.

Play it out - or make damn sure everyone is in agreement before you decide to bail.

Frankly disappointed and surprised to hear this happened.

Nobody said otherwise and by the looks of it he didn't ask. What is there to be disappointed about? It was just a misunderstanding and it seems to have been resolved quite nicely.

Why? Everyone's so shocked about this and I'm honestly trying to understand why...

    I didn't:
    - End the game early without making sure nobody had an objection
    - Ragequit
    - Act rudely about the issue

    I did:
    - Have a good attitude if someone decided they wanted to stay
    - Make sure the other team was OK with it (at least two or three of their team said it was OK, and if no objections were voiced I just assumed they were being quiet)

Can we stop being so black and white? It seems like no matter the intentions behind something or the good that you're trying to cause, only the action itself is analyzed out of context in the most rudimentary situation possible...

I was part of the euro with knee and agreed to have an euro ending. Call it poor teamplay or whatever. The teamplay aspect of our team was gone.

And a "Fuck You!" to my teammates that me and another behind and refer to us as noobs.

    Re: Quitting on TPG Games???

    What is disappointing to me:

    1) It was a winnable game.
    2) Someone wanted to keep playing, its obvious by this post.
    3) You had a new player there that his only experience with TPG regulars is quitting.

I know CSS is a different beast, but I have seen a substantial portion of a team banned because they purposefully gave up on a winnable game (all games in CSS are winnable). Someone made a call to jump into the water and suicide. Every person that participated was banned. We come here to win, not to throw a game to move onto the next game/map.
