The Qcon tips/information thread! Got a question, just ask!
I saw this mentioned in other threads and thought I would give some tips from my many years of qcon experience.
If you are flying in and want to still bring your computer, you have several options.
1. UPS/Fed-Ex/USPS that shit
2. Bring on the flight
3. Combination 1 & 2
1. If you plan on shipping your rig via UPS don't just shove the whole thing in a box and send it off. I recommend shipping the case by its self, and then your components separate. This way you can make sure to pack your components so they have less possible damage potential. (Blonde knows how us shippers treat boxes....) Fragile markings don't mean shit too.
2. Depending on the size you may be able to bring your computer on the flight. I would not just send the whole thing through baggage, though just your case can be fine. If you do bring on your flight I highly recommend removing at least your important/expensive components and putting those in your carry on (also you risk the airline losing stuff, so if it is on your person the whole time your ok).
3. A combination. I would suggest shipping your case and the components that are cheapest, and bringing expensive/important stuff on your flight in your carry-on. Also, you could just buy a cheep case for the weekend and give it away/dump it after the event.
More tips later in the thread!
Extra Rigs can be brought by:
smoke
Flame
Big Ag
Extra Monitors can be brought by:
smoke

Also Laygo said this:
So I will add:
Extra Cases:
Remember, if you are borrowing someone's extra rig you will have to meet up with them to get the rig into the BYOC. One person CANNOT get 2 rigs into the BYOC!Last edited by ab1tar; 05-26-12 at 12:01 PM.

First, yes a package that is marked fragile means we can only throw it 5 feet instead of 10. Secondly, I was going to bring my laptop, monitor, K&M/Headset, but if people are able to easily bring their secondary rigs, I might take up that offer. The only games that I play and that my laptop can handle are L4D2 and CS:S, so anyone's rig that can handle those two game would be much appreciated. BF3 capable would be a real treat

Only 5 ft? Shit, when it was marked fragile I would chunk that stuff as far as possible just cuz... Probably a good thing I don't work there anymore :P
Also, you mentioned laptop and monitor Blonde and that reminded me of this:
If you play on a laptop you are NOT allowed to bring in a monitor too. As an attendee you are allowed 1 computer, and 1 monitor, and with a laptop the screen is deemed to be your monitor!

I find it funny that u guys would do that knowing that if you guys bought a 2,000$ computer and had it shipped to ur house you wouldnt want ANY of it thrown at all period.

Hasn't been announced yet. There will probably be a Quake live tourny, but I'm not sure what else. Brink failed so I doubt they will have another one of those, and I can't think of what other tournys they have done in the past.
There will also be BYOC tournys for everyone in the LAN, but those are usually really poorly run, unless we somehow get to be in charge of that, but I highly doubt it as another community usually runs 'em.
