Thread: 2013 Pre-Registration SOOOON

I don't see how they could do much more. The area they already lease out is HUGE. I think Quakecon is growing in popularity, as is PC gaming. We saw it last year when people were waiting in line for 36 hours and longer just to get in once the reservists seats that were no-shows opened up.

You're right I think they were a bit lazy this year and just used the same set up they have used for a while now. Even though there were indications last year I don't think they expected it to get worse. Even though they did a good job with the seating arrangement they could easily fit a hundred or more seats in there. Especially if they get rid of that stupid console village that seems to be there only to annoy everyone with loud stupid music and commentary.

The seats sold out quickly this year BECAUSE people had to wait 36 hours to get in for free. I can easily see them go towards a fully paid BYOC going forward.

Totally agree! They need to kill the console village. Waste of space.

Eh console village is there for a reason, and I doubt they will get rid of it. Quakecon does seem to be growing in popularity again. 2005 was a HUGE year, then '06, '07, and '08 weren't too large. In '06 there was a large size shift down, as the whole BYOC room at the Anatole was the only room for the whole convention (Vendors, stages, and BYOC all in that room). '07 it started growing, and '09 there was the first registration debacle. I'm not sure the need to move is here yet though, as I'm sure we will see MANY of these reserved seats not filled come event time. It will be interesting to see how this event goes, and what changes they make as registration did fill so quickly.

As far as I know, they don't profit off the event at all. I know they resisted charging for tax reasons for several years, but that changed when iD was sold.
